Why am I doing this part 2

Well I am a middle aged, middle class, white, married with kids bloke living in Auckland, New Zealand.

After leaving school I did no exercise and smoked for 20 odd years. At 37 I decided this was not really good enough so I took up mountain biking, and 6 years later I am still mountain biking, I love it. I have been off the ciggies for 18 months now, drink less, eat healthier and have done a couple of half marathon runs in trhe last 12 months. My original plan was not to do a full Marathon as I thought it would be too hard.

Recently I completed my first 12 hour solo mountain biking event, the race went according to my plan, I rode for over 10 hours, I didnt come last and I did close to 160kms. This got me thinking that if I can push myself to ride for that long I can probably push myself to run for 4 or so hours in a marathon.

I have always used spreadsheets with training times but thought I would try and capture more of how the run felt and my thoughts on my training runs so blogging them could be the way to go.

Why am I doing this.

Well everyone else is so that in itself should be a good reason.

This will be my training log for the Auckland marathon in November.
